This small broadleaved woodland is a mixture of oak coppice and more mature beech woodland. The entrance is from an old quarry, with plenty of room for camping, or a small caravan. The wood includes a small stream along part of the western boundary. A narrow strip of the wood is maintained as young coppice, where power lines cross through.

The Sterridge Valley is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the stunning north Devon coats. Exmoor National park is nearby, making the location of this wood perfect for weekend visits.
